What is your ecological footprint?

I have just calculated my family’s ecological footprint. It is not good. We are living as if there are 1.9 planet’s resources available for us to squander. OOOPS!!!!!

I have done this type of calculation before but it was a British version. I like the fact that this one is designed for Australians.

What is your ecological footprint????

*edited to add….

Please don’t let the fact that this is an ‘Australian’ calculator thingy put you off doing the test.. cheers kim :)

I’m American, my footprint is more like an SUV tire track. Sigh.

Mine was 2.1, so room for improvement. Loved the calculator!

I use 1.8, also room for improvement. My house (unit) is rented however so I can’t do much about the electricity etc, but I recycle the waste and grow some of my own fruit, I don’t drive, never fly, rarely take the bus, don’t buy clothes or appliances unless something breaks, so I really thought my footprint would be smaller.

interesting.

I don’t know about some of those calculators though. Like we don’t use public transport much cos we don’t have much of it. And there are some recycling stuff that our council won’t process.

Same here Bettina.I live in the country and the public transport is non-existent. Our house is built out of recycled materials.. etc etc
But I think that it is a pretty good tool to use to get an idea of how we can be just a bit less wasteful..

cheers kim :)

2.2 for me

Tazs last blog post..32 Weeks Old

Tanya June 2, 2008 at 1:17 pm

I did it and it was 2.1 it said that I eat too many animals (it didn’t count that we get then from a butcher who’s animals are free ranging, living in paddocks instead of pens) and because I drive to work everyday I should catch public transport. Trust me, if there was pt available in my area I would be on it. Who wants to drive peak hour traffic everyday?

Veronica June 5, 2008 at 9:43 pm

I got 2.1. I think it is badly skewed for Tassie, because we have no public transport.

Also, it growled at me about the food we eat. Hello, most of it is local and fresh! Sheesh.
