Yay you for spreading the word! I personally like to employ Mr Hyphen for a good breast exam... in addition to the once monthly I do in the shower.

We are running a series of 12 contests on the Pink for October website throughout October and there are many attractive prizes up for grabs too. There is also a "Share Your Story" segment where you can share a true story, or encourage your friend/family/neighbour/colleague to share theirs.

I had my regular mammogram just last week, but I've developed a little arthritis in the neck as well as having very stiff neck and shoulder muscles (RSI) so after the attendant positioning me then lifting my chin and turning my head etc, pulling my shoulders in, my bottom out, I've been left with a VERY painful neck and not quite so painful lower back. I've used a full large sized tube of voltaren gel and I'm still very uncomfortable. I've had some time off work (annual leave) and was hoping the pain would be gone by the time I go back to work next week, but things aren't looking too good there. I'm not at all sure if I'll go back in two years for another mammogram.

Would somebody please remind men that they get breast cancer, too? And they should do self exams. Actually, mutual self exams are fun, if you can get through them, which is hard. (Hah!, I said HARD ... I'm so bad) Actually, I think it's more fun for the man, but it is a way to get him interested. More or less.

One time I saw a GROUP of older ladies all go in for their mammogram with their purple shirts and red hats together. Then they went to lunch. Good idea, and no one takes the scary vice-grip of death alone.
