I'm not sure I could eat an animal I'd named. Kinda gives me the creeps. My dad used to threaten to butcher our rabbits and that creeped me out. But if you can... GO FOR IT! I love that Sweety lived a happy life.

I think Sweetie was a very lucky piggy. I haven't emailed Woolworths because I'm in the UK and I don't think they'll care if I'm not buying their products. I have, however, emailed a couple of friends that I have in Australia and asked them to do it for me so really I've done it twice!

The program about the pig farm gave me the horrors - such a dreadful way to treat animals. Living in the city I have lost contact with the farmers I used to deal with in the country - animals farmed with love although that may be seen as a contradiction. Trust is always an issue with the big supermarkets - caught undeserving yet again.

Happy mother's day for yesterday, Kim!

Yep, happy, stress-free animals taste so much better but we wouldn't know the difference these days unless we ate home-kill.

Its a nice thought when you are eating meat to know that the animal lived a good, happy life before they ended up on your plate. I think you can tell the taste difference too. We have bought meat from a farmer who farmed all the animals free range and killed them himself and the meat was very nice, actually the best I have ever had. It was also cheaper to buy in bulk...we buy from him everytime we run out. Unfortunately though he didn't have pigs so we bought ham and bacon from the supermarket. I wont be buying again until I find out what is going on with the pig farming so thanks for posting about it or I never would have known......

I just bet Sweety tasted beautiful after such an idyllic life! Have you thought about raising another pig (or two) since then? Must be lovely to have the space and inclination to do that....

Did my letter to Woolworths and will post it tomorrow. Really hope it makes a difference.

I think it's lovely that Sweety's last thoughts were happy. Mmm breakfast. She had a wonderful life with you, completely stress free and we all know stress free meat is sweeter and more tender.
