If 500 people donate $10 each I can reach my total

I think that is do-able internet.

I am sure that between us we can round up five hundred people who are willing to donate Ten Dollars each.

What am I talking about?

In October 2011 I was sick of dyeing my hair purple. My hair grows so fast and I am almost totally grey these days. I seem to be dyeing my hair every few weeks so I don’t look like I am perpetually wearing a skunk hat. Albeit a smell free skunk hat.

So I thought “fuck it” I am going to cut it all off and raise some money while I am at it.

Enter the Leukaemia Foundations World’s Greatest Shave

And so I signed up.

To cut off ALL my hair.

Which was all well and good BACK IN OCTOBER, when March was months away and I didn’t have to think about the consequences of my actions.

There were all sorts of lovely distractions, like weddings and pregnancies and Christmas and exhibitions and MONAFOMA and the list goes on and on.

I had been thinking that if I didn’t say anything about the WORLDS GREATEST SHAVE online I could just accidentally forget to cut off all my hair.

I could say that I had been far too busy and I totally forgot and promise to do it next year and all sorts of other lovely excuses.

But the reality is that cancer doesn’t accept any excuses. And if I am frightened about the prospect of  cutting off all my hair at least I am choosing  this path, not having the choice thrust upon me by chemotherapy or radiation.

So internet will you hold my hand again?

Will you help me reach my total?

Will you write a post for me on your blogs?

Will you donate Ten dollars?

Will you knit me a purple hat to hide under?

You can DONATE TO MY PAGE  FOR THE LEUKAEMIA FOUNDATION”S GREATEST SHAVE  HERE

*** Edited on the 6th Feb. So Far internet, 40 people have donated $1231.00 I am thrilled to bits. Thank you all so much.

***Edited on the 7th of Feb. 46 people have donated $1418. Thank you *grins*

I am so proud of you…as usual x

    • frogpondsrock February 1, 2012, 9:23 am

I must be mad. But your proudness makes me smile. Thank you

  • Mareeyah February 1, 2012, 9:11 am

I still think that’s so brave of you to take the challenge. It’s a wonderful cause, but the thought of me going bald for several months feels scary. You see, my head isn’t perfectly shaped. I stayed lying on one position a bit too long when I was a baby, so there’s a part that’s somewhat flat… can’t see it now, but I can feel it when I massage my head… and I’m not daring enough to show that to the world. However, I’ll be happy to blog about your participation. Anyway, it will be mostly very cold after March, so that’s a good excuse to always cover your head. 😀 Wish you all the best for your participation in this event! 🙂

    • frogpondsrock February 1, 2012, 9:23 am

Thanks Mareeyah, I have no idea what my skull looks like and I have always had long hair except for once when I was a teenager. I am not going bald I am having a number 8 shave which is still very very VERY short. Thank you for your support. A blog post would be lovely.

  • Pixie February 1, 2012, 10:32 am

I will give you $10 and I will write a blog post ( don’t know if it will do much goods my blog isn’t huge lol)

  • Amy @ MahliMoo February 1, 2012, 12:37 pm

    Have donated Kim!

Good luck with it all. Have you started accumulating beanies yet? I am guessing Tassie would be starting to get cold by March

    • frogpondsrock February 1, 2012, 3:41 pm

I have a nice purple beanie my friend Philly knitted me but I think I might need some more. I have a blog reader/friend Sharon who knits. I might ask Sharon to make me one with ladybirds on it.

      • sharon February 2, 2012, 3:29 pm

Consider it done my dear! Can’t guarantee ladybirds (will have to check the button box) but something suitably flamboyant will head your way before Haircut Day looms 😉

  • Toni February 1, 2012, 12:49 pm

Kim, I’ll do this on pay-day. The start of school and sports has left me a bit skint this week.

You’re VERY BRAVE, but you know what? your hair will grow back. And I actually think you’re going to look amazing.

    • frogpondsrock February 1, 2012, 3:43 pm

Thank you very much Toni 🙂 I am worried that I will have a funny shaped fat head BUT it is only hair and it will grow back. and thank you for the compliment I will keep that close to mind when I really start to worry.

  • corrie February 1, 2012, 1:07 pm

yep, I’ll give you $10! I lost my dear mum to cancer last year and I’d give anything to get her back!

    good for you!

    Corrie:)

    • frogpondsrock February 1, 2012, 3:46 pm

It sucks being a motherless woman. I am so sorry you had to lose your mum. It isn’t fair.

There were motorbikes doing doughnuts out the front of my place yesterday afternoon and in the middle of all the noise the phone rang and just for a micro-second I thought, “Aah that will be mum ringing to ask if the motorbikes are bothering me as well.” Then I caught myself and remembered. That fleeting thought buggered up my mood for the rest of the night.

  • Mrs. Oh February 1, 2012, 1:14 pm

Just one more reason I love ya! You have such a good heart Kim. So I donated my $10 and did ya a blog post for my 3.6 readers. Hope that helps!

  • Elephant's Child February 1, 2012, 4:19 pm

Joining in the chorus of ‘So proud’. The rotten site won’t let me donate at the moment though – keeps telling me my session has ‘timed out’. I’ll try and work it out later. If all else fails I can send you a cheque.

    • Elephant's Child February 1, 2012, 5:02 pm

I succeeded. Screw loose in the operator (meaning I was stuffing up earlier attempts. Go Kim – you rock

      • frogpondsrock February 1, 2012, 6:49 pm

Thankyou and thank you for your generous donation. You make me feel very humble.

        • Elephant's Child February 1, 2012, 6:54 pm

Bah. You are doing a wonderful thing for a wonderful cause. Nothing at all to be humble about. Now go and look at my tiger lilies on my last Sunday Selection. Eight foot beauties I put up for you.

          • frogpondsrock February 1, 2012, 7:45 pm

lol I know I have been slack this week. Sorry I kept on forgetting. BUT I have been over now and your tiger lilies are magnificent. As are all of your photos 🙂

  • Amanda February 1, 2012, 5:26 pm

    Woohooo!
That’s a postponed YES to a donation (haven’t been paid since November so you will have to wait until I get paid) and I will tweet the shit of this post (and any more like it you want me to send out).

Ps My dad died due to complications of leukemia after a successful stem cell transplant from his brother .

  • Laureny February 1, 2012, 7:21 pm

It’s an awesome thing to do and if I could knit I would send you a purple hat post haste! I hope you reach your goal!

  • river February 1, 2012, 7:56 pm

I’d forgotten about this, but now that you’ve reminded us, I’ll send you $10.
How long is a #8 shave? And will we see photos of the “new” you?
Do you have to keep it short for any specific length of time? Or is it just a one off shave?

    • frogpondsrock February 6, 2012, 5:05 pm

Thanks River 🙂 a number 8 is about an inch long and there will be lots of photos (eek) Veronica is coming along to be my photographer and to hold my hand.

  • Suzie February 1, 2012, 8:35 pm

Can’t remember which ID I donated under but I’m sure I did that a couple of months ago. I’ll certainly retweet for you and consider blogging. I raised $550 a few years ago with friends advertising for me on a particular forum (the thread was deleted as it wasn’t relevant to the website). It’s an awesome thing to do and even a number 8 is great. Actually, I’m sure you’ll look really sexy.

  • Denyse Whelan February 1, 2012, 10:39 pm

    Bravo and Brave Kim!
Personally I’ve decided that going grey is the new black!! Or whatever.
I’ve given up the constant dying to look blonde & my salt & pepper is on display.

I’ve donated on behalf of me & Hub who has Parkinsons Disease which is a bastard of a thing.

On the website for this event, I chose to donate next to “getting someone who is too ill to treatment” amount because as my husband’s driver to everything I don’t know how he or I would ever manage …

No post from me but great work & I shall re tweet ya!!

    Denyse xxx

  • Rusty Hoe February 5, 2012, 4:00 pm

$10 donated. I just know you’lll rock the whole Telly Savalas look. 🙂

    • frogpondsrock February 6, 2012, 9:18 am

Thank you lovely. It wont quite be the Telly Savalas look, I am only having a number eight which is about an inch long. Still a huge shock to go from waist length hair to an inch. (eek)

  • Sarah February 6, 2012, 8:00 am

A friend of mine was diagnosed with leukemia in her early twenties – and about two weeks later she was dead! Nearly twenty years later, the speed with which she succumbed still chills me to the bone. My donation is in memory of Sofie and her family.

    • frogpondsrock February 6, 2012, 8:04 am

Thank you Sarah for telling me about your friend. xx

  • David February 6, 2012, 1:09 pm
