Chips and cobwebs, mmm okay

I had to Vacuum today. Yes I know that I say “Vacuuming is bad for your soul!!!” But someone had to do it *sigh* and that someone was me..

It all started when I noticed that there were potato chips in the cobwebs above the computer. Yes chips. They totally distracted me from the awesome blog that I was reading.

Then my mind started to boggle. How did the chips get into the cobwebs?

Had a mouse tried to carry the chippies into a likely looking mouse hole? Only to get a terrible shock when confronted by a spider already occupying the hole?

or

Was the spider in need of a salty snack???

Or Had a certain teenaged son thrown the chips at the cobwebs in the hope that the spider would do something??

Putting thoughts of teenagers, spiders and salty snacks firmly out of my mind. I went searching for the vacuum cleaner and was unlucky enough to find the rotten thing exactly where I had left it.

As I vacuumed I pondered the actual state of my soul. When I was a small child terrorised terrified taught by the nuns, I spent a lot of time obsessing about my soul. The nuns beat into us taught us that every sin left a smudge of dirt on our pure white souls. I worried about my soul, ( as only a five year old child can worry) an awful lot.

I was convinced that my soul was as black as black could be, because surely didn’t the nuns tell us what a sinful lot of little beasts we were full of venal and mortal sins..*sigh*

I don’t really know where I am going with this, except that I have been thinking about organised religion and God botherers and morality and stuff and I am just blurbing it out here.

I have been thinking about how it is generally the people who are most vocal about their chosen religion are the same people who aren’t really very nice or very generous of spirit.

For example:

The guy who shot my dog a few years ago started his sentences with,”I like to think I am a Christian But..” But what exactly? Because he was ‘saved’ did that mean he could run about the place being an Arsehole ‘ secure in the knowledge that his “Christianness” exempted him from having to use basic good manners?

Mrs C wrote a post that has had me thinking a lot about how we treat each other. Especially about how we treat those who are different from us. How we treat those that we are afraid of.

I think that I have run out of steam here. *phew*

I stopped worrying about my soul long long ago.(except when I vacuum of course)..

oh and you can click on the photos to make them bigger if you like.. cheers kim..

edited to add:

Yes, David put the chips in the cobweb.. He wanted to see what the spider would do. He also wanted to see how long it would take me to notice. (  3 days  oops!!! )

I did click on them!!! Hehehehehe!
Now how did those chips get up there?

I totally agree on the religious thing, looks like nuns like the ones you had to deal with as a child had relatives at the other side of the globe too! Yuck!

LOL I love the chip pictures !!!

And thanks for all the hugs and support. What’s really sad is that I don’t know that I’m a nicer person, either. I do want to be a good Christian in the true sense of the word, not a dog-shooting hypocrite!

The strangest thing is, I think we show whether we’re really doing well on that score by how well we treat people who treat US badly. So maybe I fail. :]

My eldest brother was beaten at school by the Christian Brothers until he stopped writing with his left hand.

That is somehow related. I think.

Chips in the cobwebs…………. you don’t see that every day! lol

religion has a lot to answer for that’s for sure, but I think quite a few people of faith – the quiet action not word based faith – do manage to live as they believe.

I find that those who spout how Christian they are, are the least tolerant and forgiving people I’ve met. And those who are the most frightened of gays are the ones who are questioning their own sexuality.

    Amazing how that works, eh?

LOL Rees, I think the Bible is true, but sometimes we want to over-emphasize things to suit us. That same verse (Rev. 21:8) condemns the fearful and ALL LIARS as well as a hodgepodge of other sinful behaviour.

Um, I have a lot to repent for and sure can’t say I’ve never lied or been fearful. IMO it doesn’t make the verse less true. And yet I don’t see any “Ex-Liar” ministries out there, or I might have to join. Wouldn’t that be funny? They’d say meeting’s at seven. (But really it’s at 8.)

Oh, the cobwebs at my place! And the dust! But as soon as I get my blog reads done, I might think of vacuuming.

Maybe you should introduce said certain teenaged son to the schwaker – then he wouldn’t pretend to be mice.

I hate the dog shooting christian types. The ones who only be arsed to go to carol services are much nicer.

I am definitely NOT showing my teenagers your blog in case they think Davids idea was a good one and decide to throw chips in our cobwebs.
Because, if I then had to vacuum down the cobwebs, it is likely our house would fall down, as they are probably holding it up.

Being a fine upstanding Christian man meself I treat everyone equally, with disgust and the scorn they deserve amen.

Satan writes left handed like the left hand path religions all evil, now I’m off to drink the blood of a young runaway to help me think of what to post.

Xbox – my dad told me he was punished at school until he wrote right handed too, for the rest of his life he wrote right handed, but he drew pictures lefthanded. Dad was a liar though so I don’t know where he ended up, heaven or hell or wherever it is liars go to………..

  • Xbox4NappyRash June 3, 2008, 6:10 pm

River- as it happens my brother is a filthy ratsack also but that’s irrelevant I guess lol

It was a common occurance in Ireland up into the 60’s, and 70’s to force children to write right handed.

Being a ‘Citog’ as it was called, or left handed, was seen as a mark of the devil.

The truth is stranger than fiction.

The chips were there to make sure the spiderwebs were strong enough. (And your son put them there at the request of the spiders.)

    Or something. 🙂

Xbox,Truth certainly is stranger. I much prefer fiction. Reality is often too hard. I like my own little world. It’s nice here and everyone knows me………..

I had the God Botherers tell me to put my dog down because she had a broken leg. Cause they wouldn’t waste that sort of money on an animal.

Yeah, the most vocal usually are the biggest hypocrites.
