And the winner is…

Not Drowning, Mothering.

I went to Veronica’s yesterday and watched Amy bounce on the trampoline as Vonnie pressed refresh on the bloggie’s twitter page.

I am thrilled to bits to be writing out a congratulatory blog post to the NDM, as her blog is well written and very funny. She writes about herΒ  life with humour and honesty and I find myself nodding along in recognition. You really should do yourselves a favour and go on over and check out her blog, I have no doubt you will add it to your favourites.

I had a small visitor for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon and together we went outside and played in the mud.

Then we went down and fed the pigs and had a bit of a chat about how delicious they are going to be.

We went and raided the fruit trees and Amy found that she didn’t like the furry skin on the peaches but was more than happy to munch away on the plums.

This year has been a really good year for most of my fruit trees, due to a wetter than average winter and spring. We normally struggle for water up here and I am really pleased with how much fruit my trees have produced. Amazing what a bit of water does for a plant.

The whole time that Amy and I were pottering around outside, Harry the dog was at our side. Harry loves the apple trees as he is sure that those green balls are just for him.

And finally here is a photo of my latest garden project. The spouse cut an old water tank in half for me. This autumn and winter I will be busily filling it up with sheep poo, mushroom compost and whatever else I can get my hands on. I am going to turn all the vegie garden into a series of raised beds over the next two years, as sitting on a milk crate and weeding is just so much more civilized that kneeling down on my dodgy knees.

Once Amy had gone home I went to turn my laptop on and found that my grand daughter had decorated it for me. That was my day yesterday, how was yours?

Sounds like a lovely day, up until the laptop anyway.

@ Jouce-Anne Hehe I didn’t mind the stickers, most of them just came off. Some are there as a permanent reminder to, Put the stickers away Kimmy

  • Veronica March 2, 2010, 1:00 pm

Good thing the stickers are on the outside!!

  • Kristin March 2, 2010, 1:02 pm

I love all your fruit trees. I used to have some beautiful fruit trees when I lived on Whidbey Island, alas. We are quite compost happy here, it’s addictive. I used it on my raised veggie bed. I can hardly remember what it’s like to grow things we’ve been frozen for so long now.

I don’t like the furry peaches either. I mustn’t have been concentrating very hard that day. It is the Angel’s fault you know, dashed distracting all those feathers. Second place eh, try a bit harder next year.

Um, at least Amy sorta a little bit did a border thing and didn’t go all for the middles. Your trees are gorgeous and those peaches are so full on the branches they almost look like grapes! πŸ™‚

Maybe someday I’ll visit you and your slice of paradise there, Kim. Maybe.=)

My day yesterday? Work, eat, sleep, pretty much as always.
Raised veg beds are definitely the way to go, so much easier on the back and knees.
    Love the stickers!!

The sticker thing made me laugh out loud. Gorgeous. For a second I thought she’d put them on the screen, that would’ve been less gorgeous. Funny, the 14yo still has a thing about fuzzy peaches.

Sounds like a good day! I love the stickers on the laptop… how cute! πŸ™‚

Many thanks, Kim, for your generous and gracious note of congratulations – it was lovely to know that you and Veronica were jumping around shouting “SQUEEEEEEE!” when I won.

From the looks of those luscious photos, I should have come and celebrated with you!

  • Jayne March 3, 2010, 9:15 am

Y’know, Amy almost got the stickers in perfect symmetrical mirror pattern down each side, lovely πŸ™‚

  • Jayne March 3, 2010, 9:16 am

Forgot to add – chuck a layer rocks in the bottom of the old water tank vegie garden for drainage πŸ™‚

  • Sharon March 3, 2010, 4:35 pm

Yay, I’m back home again! Totally knackered but solvent πŸ˜‰

Have caught up with the events in TAS, busy, busy aren’t you! Love the pictures – but then, I always do. Will you be able to use up all of the peaches? I have a recipe for Peach Marmalade which is very good if you are interested. If I ever live somewhere long enough to get a decent crop together I think I’d invest in a de-hydrator (?sp), it would save a fortune in dried fruits over the Winter months.

We had a good day yesterday but not as good as yours looks. It did involve a lot of stickers as well.

I’d like a fruit tree in my garden. I think I’d like a damson tree. Some of my happiest childhood memories (and there aren’t many) involve damson jam!

What a wonderful day!!! I’ve got stickers stuck in places I don’t even want to mention… only SOME of them take the finish off when I remove them. And after all this time I still forget to put them away.

Today is trying desperately to be a spring day and I think we’re going to head to the reservoir for a walk… we need some SUNSHINE. Bad.

That computer screen cracks me up! It sounds like a lovely day. I can’t wait until I have little visitors .. but that is WAY down the road. I love the garden too. Sounds like a nice slice of heaven. πŸ™‚

Those stickers on your laptop look very familiar!

Oooh my, how Amy has grown since I last saw pictures of her!!
