Oooooh look a wedgetail eagle…

I sat down to write a response to Veronica’s very good article about blogging yesterday and before I even had opened the page I was distracted. Twitter was twinkling at me, the light in the sky as the sun was rising was doing interesting things to the clouds and the cat kept jumping up onto the keyboard demanding a pat.

One thing led to another and before I knew it it was nearly 7.30 and I had been sitting at the computer for two hours and I hadn’t done a bloody thing. There were still a stack of unanswered emails in my inbox, my reader was groaning under the weight of all the unread posts and news items it was holding at bay and the dog kept nudging a ball towards me with an expectant look in his eye.

My young Roosters have just discovered that they can crow and these enthusiastically noisy boys are unaware that they have just announced that they are ready for the pot. The Spouse is an insomniac and he gets his best sleep from about 5 am – 8 am, so I was worried when there was a bit of a carry on outside yesterday morning, with my old hen giving a continuous cackling warning call and the young roosters strutting around trying to look important and just sounding silly, that the racket would wake Jeff up and the wrong rooster would end up being on that night’s menu.

I went outside to feed the hens and when I had finished throwing them their wheat I looked up into the trees and there was a magnificent Wedge tail eagle perched in one of the trees. He was ignoring the hens but they definitely knew that he was there and now I knew what all the racket had been about. I carefully went back inside to get my camera and crept back down to the hens and took these photos.

I managed to get quite a few decent shots before he/she flew away down the valley. When I came back inside the phone rang and that was the end of my computer time for the day.

So now back to that article written by Veronica, it is worth reading and really sums up what I have been thinking as well as doing. I would like to apologise to all my readers for not always answering your comments, I absolutely love receiving them but quite often something will distract me from replying properly and for that I am sorry.

Then I also get distracted by The Spouse and our mutual love of fishing.

We mostly do catch and release fishing these days and we certainly threw this tiny salmon back.

    You’re forgiven. Hehe.

Also, I’d love to go fishing too. May have to get my fishing license first, no?!; )

Also, that pic of the wedgetail eagle is awesome!

    That eagle is just magnificent!!!!!

What glorious pictures. We sometimes see eagles but only from a distance. Occasionally a hawk (no idea what sort though) visits our garden – all of the little birds find something very quiet to do until it goes away again 😉

Ooh what a fun post. Love the eagle and the river pics. There will never be enough time for emails and blogs and proper comments, etc. Never. I think we just need to accept that. Ah well!

Kim, that bird is just beautiful! I love your fishing spot too. It looks so very peaceful and has those really big rocks that I love so much.

I love your photos, they’re like a window through the world letting me see things I’d never have the opportunity to otherwise. BG Xx

Wow, that eagle… WOW! Just hanging around in your back garden?? I need to visit you one day!!! 🙂

  • Barbara June 2, 2010, 9:33 pm

I’ll be in Marylin’s bag when she comes to visit you.

    Great pictures as usual.

And yes, time – it’s definitely in short supply.

Lovely – I especially like the grays on the trees!

It’s a very pretty place in which you live. And I like the notion of catch and release if you’re not gonna eat ’em.

  • Mena June 3, 2010, 2:07 am

    What a serene looking place.

  • Jientje June 3, 2010, 6:40 am

That Wedgie is fantastic, congrats on snapping a few pics, they’re great 🙂

  • Kelley @ Magnetoboldtoo June 3, 2010, 3:54 pm

It is too noisy around my place for ANY birds to land.

    Damn Boo and his noisiness…

Great pics, as always. I want your camera!

    Wow. He was a biggie.

I get distracted too and my commenting is terrible at the moment. Humble apologies.

  • Liz June 4, 2010, 11:28 am

Great photos. And I knew there was another reason I liked you!! We’ll have to go fly fishing sometime!

I am a get very distracted type of gel. I can start off with the aim of sitting at computer to write a blog post and two hours later have done a virtual journey around the world. Plus life stuff and obviously at the minute spent a fair amount of time laughing at kitten antics and nodding off when he does too.

Love the photo’s but you know me I always do love photo’s – so thank you for the photo’s. Adore the smile on spouse’s face he looks sooo pleased.

It’s not distraction–it’s life! That’s what I always try to tell myself anyway 🙂
You are probably not quite satisfied with the eagle pics, but just being able to get within sniffing distance is more than nearly any of us can or will do.
