Photographing birds isn’t as easy as it sounds.

The birds that live around here are all camera shy and I tend to get heaps of photos like this next one. It is a very clear shot of the power line with a blurry Welcome Swallow’s tail exiting on the left there, as the bird flew in circles above my head.

I spent about twenty minutes this morning trying to photograph these lovely birds as they were flying around above me catching insects. Occasionally they would perch on the power lines letting me get shots like these.

I am a point and shoot, opportunistic photographer. I was given a tripod but I never use it, so this morning it didn’t take long before it felt like my arms were going to fall off as I was trying to photograph the swallows. I was lucky enough to get this next photo, just as the swallow flew away, so I called it a day and wandered off to photograph trees.

Hey there- yes birds in flight are difficult and take alot of patience! I love the last shot though 🙂

Actually, my favourite is the first one–that maddening glimpse of the beautiful tail.

Also known as The One That Got Away!

I keep trying to get pictures of our wrens and robins but they are just too quick. I have a few distance shots of them perched in various places and if I use the zoom function on the computer it is possible to see then a little better before it gets too pixel-y. Not giving up yet though.

Trees are much more forgiving 😉

And the trees don’t dart about all over the place either 🙂

Birds are tricky little things aren’t they? Ditto bees and butterflies.
I saw a very pretty little something-or-other perched on my TV antenna yesterday, by the time I cam back out with the camera, it was gone.
@Sharon, can you use the zoom lens on your camera to get closer shots of the birds? Then they won’t get so pixelated in your computer resizing.

LOL! I know just how you feel!
I finally have birds coming to my feeder; and a beautiful blue jay. All I get are feet and backends.

    le sigh 😉

Probably why I settled for pumpkins later.
