On lists and other things.

I am on a list.

A very special list. (This is where you all go, YAY and punch the air above your computers!)

A list that is calculated by an algorithm, not by the number of votes you can pester your friends into giving you.

A list that isnt created by a PR company or a brand wanting link backs.

A list that was featured on a daytime Television show back in 2009 when the Australian blogsophere was still just a very small group.

A list that has been around for as long as I have been blogging and has been used as a yardstick for success for a while now.

The list began in October 2007 and after a rather long hiatus is back in action, bigger and better than ever. The directory will showcase the wonderfully talented Women Bloggers we have in Australia, a celebration of women blogging, across ALL niche, no matter what you blog about.

Blogs are ranked by an algorithm which combines aย varietyย of metrics from Google, Alexa, Yahoo and Klout, it is by no means completelyย accurate. But it helps give a good snapshot of the women blogging in Australia.

Why am I drawing you attention to this list I hear you ask? Why am I flag waving furiously for this list? Why,why, why?

I will tell you.

But first you need to imagine that there is some sort of rousing musical anthem being played in the background.

I want you all to stand here with me in this proud moment in history and savour the glory with me.

I want you all to high five the air in front of your computers and imagine me high fiving the air back at you ( in slow motion of course)

I wont be in the top 100 for very long and I wanted to share my fleeting moment of glory with you all.

I want to have on public record that I was on a list that mattered. Once.

Once, back in the olden days when life was different and social networks called Plurk were all the rage, when Myspace was still in favour, when bloggers could photograph alien spaceships and search for Zombies in the local hospital. When life was rosy within the blogosphere and we all sat around virtual campfires singing kumbaya. When we all linked to each other because it was good manners and not because we thought we had to. When lists mattered and technorati was the be all and end all of ranking.

Aah those were the days my friend.

Congrats Kim – I’m sure it won’t be as fleeting as you think ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • frogpondsrock October 12, 2011, 4:51 pm

Oh I reckon it will Laney, I am far too haphazard and laid back to put in the hard work that staying ahead of the virtual pack requires. So I will bask in my momentary glory and take a screenshot for posterity. *grins*

  • Elephant's Child October 12, 2011, 9:47 am

    Congratulations.

    • frogpondsrock October 12, 2011, 4:52 pm

I expect to see your name up there soon EC. I hope you have submitted your blog. ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Elephant's Child October 12, 2011, 5:06 pm

Thanks Kim, but I have been blogging for only five minutes, don’t have the expertise and it is very much my personal space. I doubt it has much interest or relevance to more than a few. That said, I am humbled and thrilled by people who follow and/or comment. Oh dear. Getting all confused here, but I think you know what I mean.

        • frogpondsrock October 12, 2011, 5:08 pm

There are people on the list that have only been blogging for 2 and 1/2 minutes EC. You take lovely photos and I think you should submit your blog. (please)

          • Elephant's Child October 12, 2011, 5:41 pm

Red faced and shuffling feet. Thank you. Consider it done.

  • jen October 12, 2011, 10:02 am

Yay you. I too am in the top 100, also probably not for too much longer.

    • frogpondsrock October 12, 2011, 4:53 pm

I smiled when I saw your name there Jen. Old school bloggers Rule!!! Huzzah!

      • jen October 13, 2011, 7:26 am

Yeah, where did all these new bloggers come from? It’s been 7 and a half years for me.

        • frogpondsrock October 13, 2011, 7:30 am

I know, you were one of the old hands when I started. hehe. It has been fun though.

  • katesaysstuff October 12, 2011, 10:09 am

All hail Kim of the Frogpond!!

    ๐Ÿ˜€

    • frogpondsrock October 12, 2011, 4:54 pm

Queen of the Frogpond. Lady of the muck, that’s me ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Tiff October 12, 2011, 1:21 pm

Those were definitely the days, my friend.

    • frogpondsrock October 12, 2011, 4:56 pm

Yes Tiff, back in the day when we had to manually upload our blogs via the old telegraph system, through the snow in the dark of night. When it was all dots and dashes, none of this new fangled CSS and HTML it was all morse code for us. *creaks away*

  • Achelois October 12, 2011, 1:59 pm

Doing as you ask my friend, although as i can’t actually lift my arm up to punch in the air in shared victory a lot of it involves virtual punching in the air, but I know you won’t mind that.

CONGRATULATIONS on being on a list that matters very much.

I understand entirely your thoughts on those hazy days of summer when blogging was fresh and fun. Lets start a campaign , a slogan is need methinks, *please note I have taken a lot of zomorph. So my slogan thinking is pretty much on zero. However, this post I think is much more important than you may imagine as blogging is becoming history and you are right up there in the important stuff. A wikepedia entry is required I think.

I have left a note to come back to click on the link.

In the meantime, I am very proud, I hope you are too, In honour of this I have temporarily probably, raised myself from the ashes and laid down the cloak enveloping me, causing my long bout of blogger block. To post, all because of you my dear. Reminding me that it doesn’t have to be angsty to blog.

Perhaps the slogan for the campaign could include , Basics, back to… although I think I may have pinched a terrible slogan from a political party used over here to alienate a vast proportion of the population. Back to basics, scrap that.

I can’t march real time, but very up for a virtual march. Just wish you didn’t live so bloody far away, then I could come round and discuss tatics. Imagine this, blogging returns to fresh, fun, fantastic, free thinking, ad free, oops a touch of controversy there (nothing personal to anyone, they just irritate me, I understand though why people do it). I won’t be burning my bra I am afraid, as despite being an advocate of natural beauty. I fear my rather wonderful if somewhat lower than they started out wonderful bosoms, on my five foot frame would sit on the keyboard limiting my ability to type greatly without some necessary assistance from a bra suited these days to Queen Victoria, in her dotage, rather than a wonderful sexy sassy flippity slip of a thing intended to wow my OH, so despite my urge to burn my bra, or I could use it as a flag of honour, held high and proud in honour of your list status. Imagine, blogging again without any worries about doing it this way or that.

Actually I think you stay true to yourself still and are not the type of person, to compromise your integrity to gain friends in high places within the blogging community. So as far as I am concernced you in the list is as fresh and relevant as the day it was made.

    Brilliant post.
ps if this post is too OTT please just remove it, at the top of pain medication and everythings gone a bit Alice in Wonderland on me, so as my mind imagines the blogosphere like a new revised edition of Alice in Wonderland and we are all therefore certainly participating in one big illusion, I shall put on my best blogosphere persona and disappear…… tumbling into a land now of blogs, falling like a pack of cards, the Ace coming up trumps and its you winning calling everyone’s bluff at last. Because my friend, in this virtual world time is of no importance.

So you see, this list is as current as the day it evolved. You I think deserve your place still, in real time, today, right now, as a woman of importance in the blogging world> because virtual time can last as long as one wishes, the past can become present and present is actively history.

I Kim, am just so very pleased I found YOUR blog, amongst the myriad of blogs floating around the blogosphere.

If I had one of those award thingies that people give out or even knew where to get them or even make them, I would give you one so that you could proudly have it on a sidebar for posterity, stating, that you are indeed still very very relevant in The List that does state that you are still as important as you were then. Top 100, no bloody 1 in my humble opinion. Actually, you could put that image in your post in your sidebar surely……

Ok I am off, if I was in a list it would be that &^^%$^&*( annoying English bloody woman who comments too much and never ^%$$ยฃ$^&* posts.
Oh rats, the comment is longer than the bloody post, I am going. Just delete it Kim, I should have put it in an email, but I won’t because I want to be included here, commenting on the woman who made the Top 100.

    • frogpondsrock October 12, 2011, 4:59 pm

I love you Achelois and Yes I wave my bra high above my head in homage to you! I am also so very glad we found each other because You my friend never ever fail to get exactly where I am coming from.

  • Marita October 12, 2011, 3:21 pm

Ah memories ๐Ÿ™‚ Reminds me of the old Aussie Bloggers messageboard days. Seems like a lifetime ago.

    • frogpondsrock October 12, 2011, 5:00 pm

That was a very long time ago. :)x Forums come and forums go but old bloggers never die they just get archived.

      • Marita October 12, 2011, 5:10 pm

‘old bloggers never die they just get archived.’

        I like that ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Bob Findlay October 12, 2011, 4:04 pm

Well deserved & well overdue, I say.

Well done. ๐Ÿ™‚ xxoo (I don’t normally do that).

    • frogpondsrock October 12, 2011, 5:02 pm

my tongue was firmly planted in my cheek Bob but I will graciously accept your congratulations as nothing more than the accolades that I, Queen of the frog pond, Lady of the muck, deserve, Huzzah!

  • Maid In Australia October 12, 2011, 4:39 pm

I’m on the list too. Not the top 100 the last time I checked, but I’m still ahead of blogs that I thought were way more popular than mine. So that was my little boost for the day. Yay for us!

    • frogpondsrock October 12, 2011, 5:05 pm

A list based on a mathematical algorithm Bron, is so much better for the soul than a list based on the badgering of ones friends to vote for oneself.
I have managed to wander off into the third person now and that is always a sign that I need some time in the garden or the studio. Glad you had a little boost ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Jayne October 12, 2011, 5:45 pm

I was once on the list, too, but not for huntin’ down those pesky darn zombies and alien spaceships ๐Ÿ˜›

    • frogpondsrock October 12, 2011, 5:47 pm

Well what are you waiting for Jayne. Start submitting all those blogs of yours. leave the Aliens and Zombies to me. that is what friends are for. Klout says I am very influential about Zombies ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Dorothy October 13, 2011, 8:14 am

    LOL!

I was at 67 for a fleeting few hours, it felt lovely. I hope you stay there much, much longer than me…

    Love your work…!

  • sleepydwarf October 13, 2011, 10:33 am

Yay you ๐Ÿ™‚ I love your blog!

    • frogpondsrock October 14, 2011, 6:24 am

Thanks Barb, that makes me very happy to know. I honestly don’t have a clue what I am doing (apart from constantly working on my plot to take over the Universe) I just bumble along taking the words out of my head and putting them in straight lines here on the blog. Thank you for your generous compliment.

  • Jebaru October 13, 2011, 8:55 pm

You deserve it. You’re a very generous writer. Now more readers will be lucky enough to find their way to you.

    • frogpondsrock October 14, 2011, 6:25 am

Thanks Jebaru, I hadn’t thought of it that way, I had been encouraging other bloggers to add their blogs to the list so that we had a database of all the talented bloggers in Australia in one spot. cheers

  • river October 14, 2011, 10:46 pm

Congratulations! How does one submit their blog and hope to get on the list? I’m just curious as I don’t think mine is popular enough, I’d just like to know how and what to do.

  • Amanda October 15, 2011, 8:59 pm

    I SO just high-fived you.
    Up high and Down Low.

….and you are always on my top 100 list!

  • Farmers Wifey October 15, 2011, 10:13 pm

Congrats on being in the top 100…..enjoy it because you are awesome……I’m on there too, around 145..but I love the fact that votes are not the reason (for once)..and what a fabulous list of bloggers too.x

  • Glowless October 16, 2011, 5:56 pm

It is rather nice to be put on a list I didn’t have to nominate for but, like you, I believe it will be fleeting (and actually thought it was quite possibly an error – though not one I was willing to bring to their attention). Blog popularity, other than those on the top of the top, goes in cycles so I’ll drop off and might come back on over and over again. Who knows? But for now, I’ll take it as a nice little ego boost ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Elephant's Child October 16, 2011, 6:49 pm

And for a further (and more than deserved) ego boost, search for yourself under the category Personal. Very high numbers indeed, and given it is the category your blog falls into it is probably more accurate than being measured against them all.
