Sunday Selections #41

Good morning internet, how are you this morning? I woke up this morning and the first thing I thought of was that last night, I publicly announced that I am participating in the Worlds Greatest Shave next year. I have been known to cook up some seriously harebrained schemes late on a Saturday night before this one.  The difference being that all those other schemes generally involved alcohol and ran out of puff when I woke up on Sunday and remembered what I had done and then hoped like hell that no-one remembered my rash promises.

This scheme is neither harebrained nor rash. I am committed.

So my lovelies, shall we make a date for Saturday the 17th of March 2012 and I will shave off my hair if we reach my goal of $5000

Now back to today’s business of sharing photos that might otherwise be consigned to spending the rest of their days in a dusty folder in a forgotten hard drive.

The Blurb

I take a lot of photos and most of them are just sitting around in folders on my desktop not doing anything. I thought that a dedicated post once a week would be a good way to share some of these photos that otherwise wouldn’t be seen by anyone other than me.

I am also remarkably absent minded and I put photos into folders and think that I will publish them later on and then then I never do.

So I have started a photo meme that anyone can join in and play as well. The rules are so simple as to be virtually non existent.

Just add your name and URL to the Mr Linky.

Publish your photos on your blog using the “Sunday Selections” title.

Link back here to me.

Easy Peasy.

I love the colours and how they are working together in the first one, the black of the bird and the berries. And the look on that bird’s face! There is something about him, for sure 🙂

Must be a morning for photos of the kids 🙂

    • frogpondsrock October 16, 2011, 9:08 am

I am really fond of the Currawongs Amanda, they are incredibly cheeky and are not bothered by me at all. Where as the Ravens that I like equally are a much warier bird and are seriously tricky to photograph.

  • Alison Dennehy October 16, 2011, 8:31 am

I love the way the light is falling on the teenager’ face.

    • frogpondsrock October 16, 2011, 9:10 am

Yes, I do as well 🙂 That is my 17 y/o son David and it’s one of the few photos where he isn’t going crosseyed at the camera, poking out his tongue or flipping me the bird

      • Alison Dennehy October 16, 2011, 9:16 am

Hahahahaha, well he is a handsome boy, I am inspired to try and get a decent pic of my 14 year son now, as you say, preferably without doing something hideous at the camera!

        • frogpondsrock October 16, 2011, 9:18 am

Persistence is the key Alison. I should pop up a post one day of all his silly photos where he is pulling faces at me. The many faces of Dave I will call it.

  • Elephant's Child October 16, 2011, 8:57 am

Love the bird. Always love your bird photos. And Alison is right, the light on that face is superb.

  • river October 16, 2011, 9:02 am

Birds, trees and David. A perfect selection.
What type of tree is that first one with the berries? It looks familiar…
The second photo makes me want to go wandering in the countryside.

    • frogpondsrock October 16, 2011, 9:12 am

It is an Elder tree River, the flowers are medicinal (good for the skin) and make a nice cordial or champagne, the berries make a nice jelly and are also a treatment for constipation. The Elder tree was one of the 12 sacred trees.

I’m not big on collecting or taking photos – words are my chosen means – but I love to share a look at other people’s. So thanks for this, Kim. River sent me here and I’m very pleased she did.

    • frogpondsrock October 18, 2011, 8:19 am

Thankyou Elisabeth I am pleased that you took the time to leave me a comment.

  • Marita October 16, 2011, 10:31 am

Love the photo of you and Amy 🙂 and I will be supporting your Shave for Cure campaign.

The bird looks so curious, like it just spotted something off camera and is having a good look at it.

    • frogpondsrock October 18, 2011, 8:22 am

Thanks Marita, I am trying not to think too hard about it at the moment.
As for the Currawong, they are seriously cheeky birds. That window is right behind my computer desk. So he was watching me as I was photographing him. Can you see the slightly blurry line through his middle? That is a windchime thingy in the window that the lens focused through 🙂

  • sharon October 16, 2011, 10:33 am

You are braver than I will ever be if you go through with the head shaving!

Beautiful photos, just as they always are Kim. And mmmmm elderflower cordial, lovely stuff 🙂

    • frogpondsrock October 18, 2011, 8:24 am

I am committed Sharon, so even if I don’t make my goal I will still cut it short. All I need is 500 people to donate $10 and I have raised my total.
I like elderflower cordial as well. I might make some this year as it is looking to be a fantastic spring for blossom.

  • Amanda October 16, 2011, 10:38 am

    That Currawong is awesome
…and I love the portrait too.

    • frogpondsrock October 18, 2011, 8:25 am

He is a good looking boy who of course dislikes this photo. *sigh*

  • Mrs Catch October 16, 2011, 3:05 pm

I love the currawong. It looks like he’s posing just for your shot. The black is so dramatic against the green and I like the texture of the berries. Fantabulous.

  • Denyse Whelan October 16, 2011, 9:25 pm

Hello my friend with the passion for causes, art, family and just LIFE itself,
This lady didn’t join you and your friends above because I am making some changes.
The blog, now the website, I am hoping will become a source of some professional work in the field of education & schooling. I am rationing my bloggy posts…I know….can I do it?
My aim is to blog on weekdays, and then..have a rest??
So, for now, it is not goodbye…it is “see you again” and wish me luck….
    Love Denyse XX
PS Thank you for your generous heart & spirit, Kim. Looking forward to Mother of the Bride pics too.

    • frogpondsrock October 18, 2011, 8:28 am

Thanks for coming over and telling me Denyse and I wish you all the very best in your future endeavours. Maybe you could set up a photoblog and document your developing expertise with your camera. I know I like to look back at the photos I used to take compared to the photos I take now. Wordpress is very good for images, though blogger is getting better.

As for Mother of the bride I still need to find a swishy skirt.

  • carrie October 17, 2011, 1:16 am

Good luck with the head shave and great photos as usual, I love the close up of the bird.

    • frogpondsrock October 18, 2011, 8:29 am

Thanks Carrie, I will keep everyone posted re: the Worlds Greatest Shave, I am not shaving it totally off but I am going damn close. I have been dreaming about your spiral. I adore Gaudi, thank you

  • Maid In Australia October 17, 2011, 2:56 am

As usual gorgeous photos. I particularly love the one of your handsome son. A moment in time captured perfectly.

    • frogpondsrock October 18, 2011, 8:32 am

I have put it onto a memory stick to get printed Bron, I really like it as well. I had forgotten I had it here, it was only because I was trawling through my folders that I found it.

  • Avril October 17, 2011, 3:27 am

Hi Kim – haven’t contributed for a while … love the one of your son .. and the bird and elberberries .. and of course you and Amy!!!! My son shaves his head every year for the Cancer Shave-a-thon – I would not be so brave even though my sister in law has gone through chemo and now onto radiation. Jeanette and I are going down to the Cape this coming weekend to see her (and Jeanette will be doing a photo shoot with her bald head!) (I will also see my Mum of course, who now can’t speak and didn’t know I was there last visit in May – very sad) Regards Avril

    • frogpondsrock October 18, 2011, 8:37 am

My friend was telling me a story about her Mum that might help your heart a little bit Avril.

D’s mum had Alzheimers and had been in a nursing home for a while. D would visit every week and towards the end her Mum mostly slept through these visits. D would take along hand cream and an emery boar and during her visits she would do her Mum’s hands and nails for her as she slept. D told me that even though her mum didn’t register that D was there, it was still “mum time” That story was so beautiful and yet so sad.

I hope this visit is easier for you Avril xx Love Kim

      • Avril November 5, 2011, 12:02 am

Thank you Kim for your reply – have only seen it now 🙁 somehow got lost in all the downloads. Thank you for the sad but touching story. Have now been twice to see my Mum. Jeanette came with me two weekends ago and was shocked to see her the way she is. She was awake and restless – heart breaking to see. Then hubby and I were lucky enough to win a weekend away last weekend (back to the Cape and Somerset West coincidentally!) and popped in to see her again. She was sleeping peacefully this time. I had taken sprigs of lavender and rubbed them gently on her hands and pillow. Her breathing deepened slowly – I’m sure she knew it was me.
        Love Avril x x x
