I seem to take an awful lot of photos of insect’s having sex. My business cards as well as my Sunday Selections Photography meme logo is an arty shot of some discrete ladybird porn.
A friend asked me about this fascination the other day and I am sure he was disappointed when I told him the real reason that I take so many images of insect porn.
Which is of course, while insects are busily occupied with procreation, they tend to stay fairly still.
Even if the male of the species does tend to get a bit annoyed when being followed around by the paparazzi. Look at this grasshopper, do you think he looks a bit cranky?
I also have a post up on Digital Photography School if you would like to go over and have a look. Here is the link, “Live with your photos before you delete”

I like how the male’s antennae are straight as an arrow and the females are … more relaxed. Typical.
I hadn’t even noticed that Lou, hehe thanks for the smile this morning 🙂
I think that grasshopper shares the same expression Tobey had once when the kids walked in on us….
hehehe
And here was I thinking that you took so many insect porn photos to keep the voyeurs amonst your followers happy.
Oh I do EC , I do 🙂
Haha that grasshopper looks like he’s ready to go hostile on the paparazzi lol. But then who can blame him right?
Cool photos though I can’t believe you can find so many of these photos to shoot!
Damn paparazzi are everywhere these days. I live in a rural setting on five acres of bushland ( forest) I have an organic garden and so I have heaps of insects. I also have lots of small frog ponds so I manage to also capture frog porn as well as some snail porn with a froggy passenger.
As long as you aren’t phone hacking I think your paparazzi days will live on in the insect world. Brilliant photography.
Thanks Achelois. I think I would fail as a hacker. I am too easily distracted also insect phones would be very fiddly.
Since moving here the only insects I’ve seen are ants, (outside), and slaters, silverfish, millipedes, earwigs and spiders, all inside. Oh and the occasional cockroach. All of them single, not a happy couple among them.
Slaters are interesting though, all those lovely segments.
I love your ladybirds. Have you discovered gigapan photos? I was just looking at one of a pond that had lots of green frogs hidden in it, and I thought of your pictures 🙂
Thank you Sarah, no I haven’t heard of gigapan photos at all. I will go and google them now. cheers Kim
This is the gigapan that made me think of you. Happy frog hunting!

your images are very sharp and yes it is easier to catch them when they are still..and that means concentrating on sex!! Love your images. Also thank you for mentioning the Photography School..l had never heard of it..now l have..l am interested in everything it talks aboutxx
The DPS is a great resource, with heaps of great tutorials. I am pleased that you are pleased 🙂
LOL
I love the photos 🙂
Feral Aspie teen just asked “Why does she have a photo of crickets rooting?”
“Cos she’s the Accidental Insect Pornographer!”
hehe
LOL
The one with the ladybirds and their reflection is definitely my favourite.
