I use similar bowls to this one every day, I like how the uneven edges make you think about your food as you are serving it. This is quite a shallow bowl and is perfect for summery desserts.

It seems that River and I have similar tastes. This is beautiful. I love the colour, and the uneven edges. Mind you, sometimes I would want a much, much deeper bowl. I make a very fine fruit salad that I like to have in very big bowls indeed.
This colour is sublime.
It is a pretty blue, I don’t like the darker cobalt spots and flecks though. But that is just me being picky.
It’s probably a creator/artist thing. To me, a member of the great unwashed, it looks gorgeous 🙂
Yes, it is a technical thing. The cobalt Oxide that I used to create the colour needs to be sieved through a very fine 120# mesh sieve and I used a 100# mesh sieve as it was taking ages and ages to sieve the bloody stuff and I got sick of sitting there stirring the glaze. So I ended up cracking the shits and pouring all the glaze through an 80# mesh sieve and being all,gung ho and “She’ll be right” The spots are my punishment for not being patient enough. 🙂
Ah, and yet your punishment is our reward! I stole a piece of cobalt from a science lab once when I was still in school. It was the colour, just had to have that colour. Surround myself in shades of blue, sometimes green and purple, but all the varying shades of blue entrance me 🙂
Someone commented on my post on FB that we are attracted to blue because it isn’t commonly found in nature. And you are lucky you didn’t make yourself sick, cobalt is poisonous. I will make some more blue things over the summer Alison just because you enjoy seeing them. 🙂
I heard that, years later, I used to play with it all the time, but my whole environment was toxic so maybe I developed a resistance! Jane (bff) and I found some lagging in the pipes at school that made our skin itch, so we rubbed it on ourselves and everyone else and brought us all out in a rash. Was asbestos.

Oh God yes, the things we used to do to the asbestos boards in the Science labs. I took it as a challenge when the Science teacher said they were fire-proof and spent a lot of lessons picking bits off the boards and trying to set them alight.

I sent a large 2 kilo platter to Washington and it only cost about $50 Aus but that was before they changed the laws and added the extra anti terrorism excise. That is why I didn’t send the fishing magazines to your David as it was going to cost nearly $40 just to send three magazines.
Wow! Do the same laws apply to shipping to Canada? Or is it just an American thing? Our son and his wife are living in Victoria, British Columbia now, & probably for the next four years. Mailing them a box recently cost me $41… I won’t make it a habit to ship them packages! But I’m looking forward to seeing more of your art.
I have a bowl very much like this – in fact it was made by you. I use it for jewellery but this post makes me want to take all my pretty things out and serve ice-cream in it.
