Zombie chocolate day, now with added PUPPY

Hello Internet, I hope that you are all having a glorious celebration of chocolate day.

Normally on Zombie Chocolate Day, I sulk and mope and avoid the internet because it is too close to Mum’s birthday on the 11th of April. The missing is intrinsically tied in with hot cross buns and eggs filled with smarties because Easter was always Mum’s celebration. I could never get away with calling it Zombie Jesus Day, without Mum rolling her eyes at me telling me to BE NICE and exacting a promise of good behaviour from me.

This year I have passed an invisible milestone in my grief and I feel like shouting ZOMBIE JESUS from the rooftops and mentioning the full moon.

I feel like I am entering a year of firsts.

The first April in five years that I have not had to force myself to get out of bed each day.

The first anniversary of Mums birthday that I did not cry all day.

The first time since 2009, I could think about Easter and smile at the thought of hot cross buns.

And the first sign of my approaching insanity, The Spouse and I brought home a puppy on Good Friday.

After much discussion we settled on the name Monty or Montgomery Foale, for those times I feel like being formal.

Monty is a Labrador Kelpie cross and so far life with a tiny puppy has been exactly as I remembered.

Lots of racing out the door to the grass, mid puppy wee, lots of putting things out of reach of needle sharp puppy teeth and lots of breathing in of that glorious puppy smell as Monty falls asleep on my chest.

Happy Easter everyone.

Happy Easter Kim – and Monty.
I am so very glad to hear that grief has loosened her hold on you a bit this year.
    Hugs.

    Puppy! Puppy!
I’m bouncing in my seat here. Welcome Monty!
He’s gorgeous! He looks so soft!

I have things well out of reach of teeth and claws too, until Angel realises the distance from scratching post to side table is the same as post to dining table which he jumps with ease.

Oh a puppy, what could be better than a puppy?? Well maybe two puppies, but he is so cute!! You are very lucky and so is Monty(?).

Two puppies would be a recipe for pure mayhem.Fun but super impractical. Harry my older dog has just worked out that Monty is a a dog as well and so now they are tentatively playing, it is nice.

Grief is such a complicated thing. I lost my significant other 5+ years ago. This year I thought about his birthday in the weeks before, then didn’t think of it on the actual day. On one hand I looked at it as another step forward in the grieving process, on the other hand I was mad at myself for forgetting.
A puppy! How exciting is that. They just make you smile from ear to ear.
    Happy Zombie Chocolate Day.

<3 My pleasure Eden. It is funny that sometimes hope comes from the most unexpected places. I remember not long after Mum died, David and I were watching the Lord of the rings trilogy. They were Mum's videos, and the only time I watch a movie is if Dave makes me have a movie marathon with him. When Frodo and Sam were climbing up Mt Doom with the ring and Frodo is about to give up, Sam says "there is always hope Mr Frodo" As cheesy as it sounds, That line in that film gave me hope for the next couple of years. xx

In the summer, you could shave him, and call him the full Monty…. Sorry. (Not sorry).

Zombie chocolate day, a most excellent phrase which I intend to appropriate next year 🙂
