I take a lot of photos and most of them are just sitting around in folders on my desktop not doing anything. I thought that a dedicated post once a week would be a good way to share some of these photos that otherwise wouldn’t be seen by anyone other than me.
I am also remarkably absent minded and I put photos into folders and think that I will publish them later on and then then I never do.
So I have started a photo meme that anyone can join in and play as well. The rules are so simple as to be virtually non existent.

That horse is heartbreakingly beautiful. And is the second last one your creation? It has the pared back elegance of your work. Love it. Lots.
Yes it is my work. I don’t think it would post very well otherwise I would send you a similar one. It is part of a series I made for an end of year exhibition, the Polytechnic diploma and advanced diploma (me) students were organising. But I pulled out of the show due to other commitments.
It has now been sold. I put it up on facebook and a friend bought it withing five minutes of publishing the image 🙂
The horse is heartbreaking and I have written about my response to Berlinde de Bruyckere’s sculpture further down in the comment section in response to Carolina.
I wasn’t hinting that you should send it to me Kim, really I wasn’t. It was just appreciation for its beauty. And of course it got sold.

That is the image I use on my business cards Marylin. I then have a conversation starter by saying “Oh and in my spare time I photograph insect porn” 🙂

The third phot…at first I thought it was a dinosaur embryo fossil and then as I kept looking I saw it was a horse. The next photo confirmed that.
The simple white cup is lovely.

What a range of emotions your photo’s bring this week. Childhood memories on the carousel, sadness with that amazing piece of art and ooh’s & ahh’s at your iceberg cups… love it.
Thankyou Sam. It has been an “intense” week with extreme highs and lows. So I think the images reflect my mood. Even though I wasn’t thinking about much of anything when I chose them. I am going to write a post about the iceberg cups I think they deserve a showing all of their own.
I do love your carousel pictures, and so does miss 5 who was sitting on my lap as I looked at your selection. Your choices almost make me think of a “Best Of” because there are some of my favourite images in there 🙂
Surprisingly Miss 5 didn’t say anything on the MONA images, although she did ask where they were from. I *think* she might like to go there, as she is still quite interested in Heide as I am reading several books on Sunday Reed at the moment which include many works from the Heide collection.

I would go to Mona by yourself first Amanda. The atmosphere is very intense there. The horse by Berlinde de Bruyckere is in the sex and death gallery and that section of Mona is most definitely not suitable for Miss 5.
I have lots of concerns about taking her, and would properly investigate first, although it would have to be other than going without her as I don’t think the opportunity is likely to arise 🙁
Boy, that horse exhibit is heartwrenching, isn’t it.
It is my favourite piece in the whole of the museum. They exhibits were changed in August and the first thing I did was check that it was still there. I was so pleased that it hadn’t been removed.

I know which ones Carolina. The Belgian artist Berlinde de Bruyckere cast the sculpture from a dead horse that was at an abottoir. The artist says that her sculpture is about loneliness. The sculpture in the Mona museum is life size and it is made from a waxy substance (cant remember sorry) that is easily marked. This sculpture speaks to me on so many levels. I sit on the floor by the horse and I think deep thoughts about our throw away society, death and destruction. I wonder about the horses life and how frightened it was before it died. I have a real affinity with horses Carolina and before I injured my knee I used to ride. I think I keep on publishing these photos of the horse as I like to stand as witness for all the horses that are just thrown away in our world.
I adore your vase, it’s just so fragile but simply pure.
The merry-go-round horses are great except they seem to have a silent scream happening, echoing the horse art work further down.
