Sunday Selections #48

The Blurb

I take a lot of photos and most of them are just sitting around in folders on my desktop not doing anything. I thought that a dedicated post once a week would be a good way to share some of these photos that otherwise wouldn’t be seen by anyone other than me.

I am also remarkably absent minded and I put photos into folders and think that I will publish them later on and then then I never do.

So I have started a photo meme that anyone can join in and play as well. The rules are so simple as to be virtually non existent.

Just add your name and URL to the Mr Linky.

Publish your photos on your blog using the “Sunday Selections” title.

The Photos

These photos were all taken last summer.

I love bulbs and before my grandfather died in 2008 he would always give me lots of bulbs. Every time my Tiger lilies flower I think of my grandfather.

The curve of this Molly Hawks wing sends me off into ceramic daydreams.

As does the fine detail in this bush blowflies wing. I love the colour of this blowfly. The eyes of the common house fly always remind me of futuristic robotic design.

I can watch the Orb spiders in their webs for hours. My friend Zelda brought her cockroaches in for me to photograph. I like cockroaches. The sound tunnel at MONAA frogling emerges.

Welcome swallow

This dead sting ray was on the beach and if it hadn’t been so smelly I would have brought it home and made a plaster cast of it. But honestly internet it stunk to high heaven.

Those tiger lilies grow in my garden too – and the stems are now over five feet tall – a bumper crop this year (I hope). The sound tunnel would freak me out – I am a tad claustrophobic, but I don’t know which of the others I like best. The molly hawk and the flies eyes perhaps. Or the swallow. Or the spider and its web. Thank you lots for this selection.

Oh wow, mine never get over 3 foot high, They will be so lovely. You will have to share photos of them for us.

These are such great photos Kim!
How did you get so close to a house fly? Those robotic eyes are really interesting.
The lilies are beautiful to look at, but I prefer them with the pollen removed if I’m going to have them anywhere near me. I’m so allergic.

    • frogpondsrock December 4, 2011, 6:20 pm

I adore Christmas lilies River, but the Spouse is SO allergic that I cant have them in the house. Which is such a shame as their perfume just fills the house. I just sat at the table and photographed the fly as it was busy. I have a good macro lens so I wasnt really that close.

Such stunning photos, that bird in flight and the stinking sting ray, the spiders, the frogling in pond, the orange flower that opens the collection. You take a magnificent photo, Kim. Thank you.

Thank you Elisabeth, I photograph the things that I like and they seem to turn out well. I am pleased that you liked the images this week.

Oh wow! I love the macros of the flies and the spider. The sunlight through those lilies is gorgeous. Lovely to have flowers to remind you of your grandfather. Love the frogs too. Cute. Not something that can be said of the stinky stingray 😉

    • frogpondsrock December 5, 2011, 5:34 am

I thought the stingray had an interesting face, but it was very very smelly.

  • Tat December 4, 2011, 9:07 pm

I wouldn’t say flies and spiders are my favourite creatures, but your photos make them look beautiful!

    • frogpondsrock December 5, 2011, 5:37 am

Thanks Tat,I am pleased that you like the photos, I am still learning how to use the macro lens. The fly shot was one of those lucky snaps that turned out okay

  • Linda December 4, 2011, 10:15 pm

Wonderful photos. especially the macros. I could learn to love spiders. I don’t mind them as long as as they’re not right in my face…
And I love that you have those wonderful lilies from your grandpa!

    • frogpondsrock December 5, 2011, 5:54 am

I am the same Linda and I don’t like disturbing their webs either. I do get a bit squealy (on the inside) when they they are running towards me because I know that they are going to leap for my throat.
My Grand father used to grow me fruit trees as well, so I have six fruit trees here that Pop grew for me as well.
